Newcastle to Amsterdam by Bike (and Boat!)

In the North East we have unique access to continental cycling culture via the DFDS Seaways ferry which runs between North Shields and Ijmuiden, just west of Amsterdam.

We run trips for schools, businesses & private groups to get across to the Netherlands on trips ranging from between one and four days. It is possible to go for a day’s long ride or to stay outside Amsterdam using Haarlem as a base to explore Amsterdam, the national parks and museums.

The Amsterdam trip is a fantastic opportunity to learn more about Dutch culture, what it’s like to cycle in Europe, relax on beaches and in the national parks.

Maps

Getting to North Shields is simple – take a look at the route there below which goes from our HQ in North Tyneside to the ferry terminal. Once you’re on the continent, the cycling couldn’t be easier thanks to thousands of miles of protected cycle lanes.
